Masters Tournament 2017

Following on from the success of the last 2 years, Volleyball Ireland VAI is delighted to announce the return of the Masters Tournament to the official calendar this season.  The Masters Tournament is a one day tournament which takes place on Saturday, 18th November in ALSAA near Dublin Airport (

It is open to all 35+ year olds (and to those playing Premier League who are 40 and over) who are interested in playing in a one day fun tournament.  The main aim is to bring current and former players back together for a day of recreational volleyball.  You will enter on an individual basis, confirming your position and teams will be decided by the Competitions Commission.  Alternatively you may provide your team details if you are entering as part of a team.

It costs €5 per player to enter and the entry form from the office. Masters Tournament - Entry Form

The structure of the tournament is as follows:

  • The closing date for entries is Wednesday, 15 November.
  • Each team must have a minimum of 3 ladies on court at all times.
  • Any players who have registered as individuals will be allocated to a team.
  • If you would like to register a team but only have 3-5 players, please go ahead with your registration and note on the form that you are looking for additional players (and how many).  We will be able to allocate players to your team.
  • Informal uniform is permitted.
  • Unlimited substitutions are permitted.
  • All players and teams must register at the tournament desk in ALSAA at 9.30am on the Saturday before the commencement of the competition.  Play will take place from 10am to 4.30pm (approx.) across two courts.
  • The format of the tournament will be timed sets and the schedule will be available at the tournament desk on Saturday morning.  There will be no official on court warm-ups.
  • All players must serve underhand and the net height will be 2.38m.
  • Normal FIVB rules will apply except where otherwise stated.
  • Refreshments will be available to purchase in the Bowling Alley in ALSAA throughout the day and we will have a gathering in the bar upstairs at the conclusion of the day’s play where it is also possible to purchase finger food.
  • There will be first aid provided.

Here’s looking forward to some great volleyball and an opportunity to meet up with old and new friends on and off the court.

We are looking for your support of the tournament so that it will become a permanent event in the calendar for years to come.

The Competitions Commission seeks additional volunteers to assist with the organisation of the tournament and if you are interested please contact the Competitions Commission at  We are also available for any questions potential players may have.

Yours in Sport,

VAI Competitions Commission & Masters Tournament Committee
