DVC: Are excited to announce the launch of their new Coaching Development Programme.

In 2007 DVC set out on a mission to devise a strategy to transform the Club into a progressive, expanding and exciting Club for one and all. At DVC’s annual AGM in 2008 this strategy was passed by the Club Members and since then we have been steaming ahead with our plans to open a Junior Section, set up an annual tournament, attract players, develop our referees, develop our coaches etc. DVC’s Club Strategy document is available to anyone interested by contacting the club: info@dublinvolleyballclub.net

One key area which is fundamental to the foundation of the club is the area of Coaching so since April 2009 we have been progressing and developing our ‘Coaching Development Programme’. The aim of this programme is to continually develop our existing coaches, to attract new coaches and to develop those new coaches to become qualified DVC team coaches to support the Club’s expansion.

Earlier this year we established DVC’s Coaching Team which is comprised of DVC 6 existing coaches (not to be named here but lots of names you’d all recognise with tonnes of experience and great ideas). This team has worked throughout the summer to develop a ‘Coaching Development Framework’, ‘Coaches Roles, Responsibilities and Standards’, a ‘Coaching Calendar’ which includes a schedule of events for coaches such as focus workshops to discuss a particular area of the game e.g. ‘Training the Libero’ or ‘Match Preparation’ and lots lots more.

DVC have also created a position of Club Head Coach whose main responsibility will to be mentor existing coaches in areas like season planning, session planning and execution, match coaching etc. The Club Head Coach will not have direct responsibilities over any team but will spend time throughout the season with the coaches of these teams and they will assist in the development of new coaches in the club.

DVC strongly believe that through developing our coaches we can develop our players at all levels. At the moment DVC cater for teams of Division 1 and Premier standard. This year we open our Junior Section and obviously we have a commitment to provide coaches for this level also. We plan to expand our player base from Junior right the way through to Premier standard for both men and women so we therefore need to invest in our coaches. DVC’s Coaching Development Programme is our commitment to delivering this.

We hope that the Irish Volleyball Community of Coaches and Players will see this as an exciting opportunity and development in our Sport.

We welcome anyone interested in finding out more or joining the Club to join in at any level as a coach or player!!
